As we know in a diesel-electric locomotive, “prime mover” would be the diesel engine that rotates the main generator responsible for producing electricity to power the traction motors that are geared to the drivers. We at QRS have performed this process for several decades, on all types of locomotives. The number of change outs we have completed runs into the hundreds with class one’s, shortlines and industries. QRS has been replacing locomotive power for many years. When mechanics are completed, our inspector of quality control completes a thorough run-through of all parts replaced and connections made. If needed, final working adjustments are made ensuring your final product is in like “new” running condition.
Our team has successfully installed over 500 of these modifications. We work hand in hand with all roads on installations, training and updates. Our electricians are certified installers including the new PTC modifications.

We also replace left and right diode banks. We service and install new generator bearing slip ring and repair other related components for a complete update.
Complete unit rewire- Low voltage and/or high voltage. In our 300,000 ft2 facility we perform electrical procedures of all kinds and in all types of locomotives daily. Our highly trained professional locomotive electrical team has been tried and trusted by many class-one railroads as well as shortlines and industries for over a decade.

Damaged and wrecked locomotives are brought back to life looking and running like new with our second-to-none mechanics, electricians and fabricators completing all the professional application processes needed. Our mechanical team will repair and replace all that is needed bringing your locomotive up to new running condition. Our team of electricians will complete all necessary repairs to get all communications and power distributed.
Final applications will be completed as our fabricators begin shaping, forming and replacing all metal applications. Frame mis-alignment and straitening are handled with care and finished precisely to original condition. The last step takes place in our state of the art paint facility equipped with our trained and true team of professional metal artists.
They begin by cleaning, inspecting, sandblasting and repairing your unit. The paint process will be completed with any scheme, application type and badges you desire. When were finished your unit will look and run like new again, ready for many more years of service.

Let our mobile 60 ton cranes lift your locomotive at our facility, yours, or in the field. We will remove the truck frame, inspect the components, traction motor, wheels and consult with you on our diagnosis. We will rebuild or replace what is needed. Finally we will reinstall the unit back on your locomotive…getting you back on track that much quicker.
Locomotive truck frames are sandblasted, checked for wear, repaired and rebuilt. Our finishing process is a complete black paint application, creating a brand new look.

DERAILMENT SERVICES
When the unfortunate happens and the cars are on the ground, this usually means the specialized and expensive equipment has to be brought in to clear the cars and/or re-rail them. During this re-railing and/or clearing process there are often a lot of additional decisions and needs that are bi-product from the derailment that must be addressed. Products may have to be transferred and/or picked up, cars may need scrapped, rail and ties picked up, ditches cleaned and reshaped, private property restored, etc.
